During the inauguration ceremony of Ha. Hoarafushi airport, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that, a transport network is very much vital for the nations national development.
While talking on the ceremony, president has stated that the airport was a dream of the islands, and that is which resides to them as well. Hoarafushi airport being the first airport developed by this government, president stated that this ticks an important milestone of the governments long term plans.
Therefore, stating the benefits of the airport, president said that the opening of this airport would be not only a connection between Hoarafushi and the capital, but it would be a link between the whole of Ihavandhippolhu.
Furthermore, the president emphasized on an integrated transportation system for national development as well. In order to implement this, the president talked about the ferry system based between Haa Dhaalu atoll and Cochin, India as well. He gave the good news of within 2-3 weeks a similar route will be established between Addu atoll and Tuticorin, India.
It is also a plan of the current government to establish airports in close proximity of every island in the nation as well. And to link more, the government would also be working on a reliable ferry system between the islands as well, according to the president. The president also announced the long awaited developments for the Hanimaadhoo Airport and that soon after the development, the airport would become international.
The development of the Hoarafushi airport was one of the pledge of the president Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The president also met with some of the islanders through a tea organized by the island on behalf of the president as well. Along with the president, the cabinet ministers and members of the parliament and also council members participated in the event as well.
