To the many families of Sh. Maroshi, visiting the ‘Thundi’ or sand spit in the south west of the island has become an evening pastime. The pristine clear waters, the fine sand and the beautiful greenery is the perfect place to get the mind fresh and the kids to have a blast. You would find the place packed with children and families everyday the weather is fine.
A group of youths from the island have been readying the perfect gift for these families with works being underway for weeks.
The group has installed wooden swings, a joali and an ashi well at the beach and is calling the place “Maroshi Sunset Beach”. The group further revealed plans to install umbrellas for shade and chairs in the water to provide an avenue for the kids to enjoy the waters even more.
They also thanked the people of the island for the support to their project and hopes that their work brings happiness and joy to the many families that visits the beach everyday.

The island of Maroshi is renowned for their Karu Hakuru. A creamy thick paste made by further cooking Dhiyaa Hakuru—which is prepared by boiling toddy from coconut palms until it caramelizes to a thick, decadent, honey-like syrup—with the addition of coral. The island is also known for a huge Kaani (Sea Trumpet) tree, which is a living tribute to Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu, who freed the country from the reign of the Portuguese.
