From the lawyers, Abdul Manik has won today’s elections to elect the member for the judicial service commission.
In today’s election on behalf of lawyers, 404 lawyers voted to elect the member for the judicial service commission. From the votes the 199 voted was given to the candidate Maaniu from HA.Ihavandhoo.
The next person to get the most votes next to Maaniu was lawyer Ali Rasheed who got 124 votes. Candidate Haneefa Khalidh who competed in this election got 27 votes whereas, the former information commissioner Abdul Azeez Jamaal Aboobakuru got 37 votes.
In the past, the member for the judicial service commission on behalf of the lawyers was Latheefa Gasim. With the enactment of the new legal practice bill she has lost her position as member for the judicial service commission. This is the first election after the making of the bar council for the regulation of lawyers in respect to the legal procedure.
