Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has stated that the government will resume the iHeaven project.
Responding to questions raised by parliament members during the parliament session, Saeed stated that the government has a vision in executing the Ihavandhippolhu project. Developing an International Seaport in Ihavandhippolhu is a presidential pledge of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. However, the project has not been executed yet.
Moreover, the previous government also announced the construction of a transshipment port at Ihavandhippolhu. However, by the end of five years, work on the project had not started.
As part of the iHeaven project, a state-of-the-art Port at Ihavandhippolhu, an Airport, Production and Processing of Goods, Warehousing, International Cruise Facility and Real Estate Facilities are planned to be developed.
Saeed further stated that the implementation of the Ihavandhippolhu project would be a priority for the new government. The decision on providing bunkering services or transshipment services there will be taken by those who invest in the project, Saeed added.
Furthermore, Saeed stated that the Government is ready to provide all the necessary services to boats passing through the area. He also added that government will provide service to international boats passing through other parts of the country if it benefits country’s economy.
