The Community Center developed in Sh. Foakaidhoo with the assistance of the Indian Government has been inaugurated.

The Community Center was inaugurated by Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.

The two storey Community center building was set up with free aid of MVR 106 million from Government of India. The building has a club office, meeting room, library, conference hall and secretariat office.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Shahid expressed his gratitude for India’s support to the Maldives. He added that the Community center will benefit the residents of the island and social bond among the residents will also be strengthened. Moreover, council can hold workshops and seminars at the atoll level and at the national level.

Furthermore, Minister of External Affairs of India stated that under the India-Maldives Development Partnership, the community center is a unique testimony to the relationship between the two countries. In addition, he noted that India supports 45 such projects in 36 islands in 16 atolls of the country and 23 of them have already been completed.
