Rumors are circulating that the current President of the HA. Dhidhdhoo Council, Abdulla Rasheed, may contest the upcoming local council elections as an independent candidate.
When “Thiladhun” reached out to clarify these rumors, Abdulla Rasheed neither confirmed nor denied the reports.
“I will announce a decision on this matter very soon,” Abdulla Rasheed stated.
Abdulla Rasheed won the presidency of the Dhidhdhoo Council in the last local elections on the ticket of the then-opposition PPM/PNC coalition. While the then-ruling MDP won five seats on the Dhidhdhoo Council in that election, the PPM/PNC secured the council presidency as well as one member seat, which was won by Moosa Latheef.
While rumors of Abdulla Rasheed contesting the upcoming local elections as an independent candidate spread on social media, the President of the Ihavandhoo Council, Ahmed Sobah, has already submitted his form to contest as an independent.
The upcoming local council elections are scheduled to be held on April 4th.
