A workshop was held in Kulhudhuffushi City on October 30 under the “Climate Change and Human Mobility Project.” This workshop was a one-day event organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Kulhudhuffushi City Council on behalf of the Maldives. The City Council stated that the purpose of the workshop was to share the findings of the baseline study prepared by the organization, and to discuss global climate change, the resulting human migration patterns, and the importance of these issues for small island nations. Furthermore, the City Council also mentioned that the workshop included discussions on the importance of planned relocation and resettlement of people to mitigate the damage caused by climate change. A total of 17 participants, including Maldivian and expatriate workers from institutions in Kulhudhuffushi and members of the public, took part in this workshop.
