Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that 70% of the work has been completed in the land reclamation and connection project between Sh. Komandoo and Mathi Komandoo, which share the same lagoon.
The previous government awarded the contract for land reclamation, shore protection, and connecting the two islands to MTCC in January 2022. The company commenced the work on January 14, 2022.
Sharing the latest updates on the project, MTCC stated that the geobag revetment work has now been completed. The company also mentioned that breakwater re-profiling work is currently in progress.
Under this project, the scope of work includes 1,690 meters of shore protection rectification, reclamation of 16.7 hectares of land in Mathi Komandoo, construction of a 1,250-meter rock boulder revetment, 353 meters of rock boulder groyne, and installation of 112 meters of geobag revetment in Mathi Komandoo.
Additionally, the project includes connecting the reclaimed area of Komandoo and Mathi Komandoo with a 200-meter-long link.
The project was awarded to MTCC for MVR 250 million, with a completion period of 730 days.
