Kulhudhuffushi City Council has officially inaugurated two state-of-the-art outdoor volleyball courts developed at the ‘Volleyball Arena’ of Kulhudhuffushi City Stadium.

The opening ceremony of the Volleyball Arena was held on Tuesday night and was officially inaugurated by Kulhudhuffushi North Constituency Parliament Member Yasir Abdul Latheef.

The arena was opened with a rostrum and with a hut that can be used to broadcast matches on live. On both the courts, lights are installed so that the courts can be used at night.

Speaking on the occasion, Yasir stated that the required sporting facilities has not been developed even close to the progress of the players in the sport and the shortage is becoming more noticeable. The last government had announced the development of an indoor complex and a synthetic track in the city but wanted it to happen not because they belong to a particular ideology. Yasir pointed out that everyone wants it to happen.

Speaking on the occasion, Kulhudhuffushi City Mayor Mohamed Athif stated that the City Council has so far made several efforts to establish sports facilities in the city, including changing the turf of futsal ground, developing a badminton court with rostrums, developing an indoor gym and outdoor gym, as well as arranging billiards and table tennis to be played in the city. Moreover, Athif added that in the future, the city council and the WDC will jointly develop handball courts.

In addition, Athif urged the authorities concerned to ensure that the opened volleyball courts are used for a long time and that they can be used as per the rules and efforts should be made to take the volleyball to another level in the island. Athif added a good quality volleyball tournament will be held next year.
