Ha. Utheemu Emme Aligadha Thari Quran Competition 1445, organised by Utheemu Council in collaboration with Wingers, a Civil Society Organization (CSO) in the island is set to begin on tomorrow, Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

A total of 55 students from Utheemu School and PreSchool and five individuals participated in the competition, which was open to all. Preschool students are excluded from competing for the ‘Emme Aligadha Thari’ title.

The competition has been scheduled to be held for four nights, March 19, 20, 21, and 23. The competition will be held in three rounds, including the memorized reading part, non-memorized reading part and the Tajweed. ‘Utheemu Emme Aligadha Thari’ will be selected at the final show on the night of 23.

Speaking regarding the competition, President of Utheemu Council Abdulla Rasheed stated that instead of holding individual competitions in islands with a small population like Utheemu, the council intends to organize a single quality competition in collaboration with institutions and clubs/CSOs and give a good reward to the winners. He noted that this is the third consecutive year the competition is being held in collaboration with Wingers.

He further stated that in collaboration with the Centre for the Holy Quran and Utheemu Council have been running a Centre for the Holy Quran branch in the island for the past seven years, which has greatly improved the quality of Quran recitation level among the students of the island and general public.

A cash prize of MVR 8,000 will be awarded to the ‘Utheemu Emme Aligadha Thari’ winner and an Umrah trip. Umrah trip is sponsored by Nawa Hajj Umrah Group.
