‘Nellaidhoo Emme Aligadha Thari’ Quran Competition organized by HDh. Nellaidhoo Council is set to begin on March 21.

Auditions for the competition were held on December 22 last year to select the contestants for the competition. Initially it was planned to select a total of 20 contestants for the competition, but only 15 contestants were selected for the competition due to the shortage of participants, therefore organizers decided not to hold the first round of the competition and round two and final of the competition will be held.

The second round of the competition is scheduled to be held on the night of March 21 and 22. The final round is scheduled for the night of March 28 and 29. Winners of the competition will be selected on March 29. The competition will be held at Nellaidhoo Preschool.

The winner of the competition will be awarded with ‘Nellaidhoo Emme Aligadha Thari’ Shield and MVR a cash prize of 30,000. A cash prize of MVR 10,000 will be awarded to the runner-up and MVR 5,000 to the second runner-up.

The objectives of conducting the competition include increasing the love for the Holy Quran among the local population, creating people who know how to read the Quran in accordance with Tajweed, creating people who know how to recite the Quran beautifully, promoting memorization of Quran, and inculcating the spirit of reciting the Quran.

Moreover, he with Ramadan being the month the Holy Quran was revealed, increasing the importance given to the Holy Quran among the people during this month, creating hafizs in the island and preparing children who will represent the island in the Quran competition held at national and international level are among the objectives of the competition.
