The warm welcome given from Sh. Foakaidhoo to the scholars last Thursday has gotten a lot of attention from the public.

Sheikh Ahmed Sameer who is a citizen of Foakaidhoo and Sheikh Ibrahim Rafiu, a scholar of the Lantern Organization who arrived in Foakaidhoo on Thursday to facilitate a religious awareness session in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.

Even though the two scholars reached the island in a hot afternoon, many residents of the island queued up at the island harbour area to welcome them. Such long queues are usually seen when the President or politicians of the country visit the islands.

Foakaidhoo Police Station, the island council, institutions, organizations, atoll council, WDC and other members of the general public held a rel on the theme ‘Rahumathuge Moosun’ on Friday night. A large number of people turned up for the session.

According to a resident from the island, Foakaidhoo has always been a role model when it comes to welcoming religious scholars, but this is the highest number of people who have come out to welcome the scholars so far.

Moreover, the person added that scholars are respected people in the society and should be respected properly, and it is a habit that needs to be kept alive.
