‘Kan’balunge Mas Race 2024’ held at Kulhudhuffushi City by Women’s Development Committee (WDC) to mark this year’s International Women’s Day has been concluded successfully.

A total of 12 teams participated in the competition and the winning team of the tournament was Team Dhamaa Nagaa. Unique Friends and Team Latti came second and third respectively.

The winning team, Team Dhamaa Nagaa caught fish weighing 51.85 kg, Unique Friends, which finished second, caught 43.1kg and the third-placed Team Latti caught 33.55 kg of fish. A cash prize of MVR 15,000 was awarded to the winning team, MVR 10,000 for the runner-up team and MVR 5,000 for the second runner-up.

Moreover, Aishath Latheefa from Team Dhamaa Nagaa was selected as the best fisherwomen of the competition. She caught 28 fish. Aishath Isha Ashraf (14 years) from Team Saraf was selected as the youngest fisherwomen, and Ameena Usman from Neighborhood Police Team caught heaviest fish weighing 6.95 kg.

According to  Kulhudhuffushi City WDC, one of the objectives of conducting the fishing race is to promote unity and harmony among the women of the city. At the closing ceremony of the fishing race, prizes were presented to the winners by former WDC members.
