HDh. Nellaidhoo Council has stated that Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu has informed that the construction of an indoor gym in Nellaidhoo will begin this year.
The council made the statement after meeting Minister Abdulla Rafiu as part of the council’s ongoing visit to Male’ city to discuss the budgetary allocation for 2024.
Moreover, after the meeting Nellaidhoo council stated that during the meeting with the minister, a number of issues related to the sport in Nellaidhoo were discussed. According to the Minister, the work of installing lights at the official Football Ground of the island will be announced in March.
In addition, as soon as the design of the rostrum of the island’s football ground is finalised, the work will also be handed over to a contractor, and the construction of the indoor gym planned to be built in the island will begin this year.
During the visit, the Council also met with Minister for Fisheries and Maritime Resources Ahmed Shiyam. Regarding the meeting, the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources said that during the meeting, the Council shared with the Minister the challenges being faced in the sea cucumber fishing activities in Nellaidhoo.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has also stated that discussions have been held on the establishment of a Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) in the Nellaidhoo area.
