MVR 5,000 coupon given to each Tuna Fishing Vessel in HDh. Hanimaadhoo by council

HDh. Hanimaadhoo Council has given MVR 5,000 coupon to each fishing vessel (tuna fishing vessel) in the island.

Hanimaadhoo Council handed over the coupons to the island’s these fishing vessels at a special banquet hosted for the island’s fishermen to mark this year’s Fishermen’s Day.

Most of the fishermen from the island attended the banquet held on Wednesday night, stated Haarisa Mohamed, the council member who oversees the fisheries sector in Hanimaadhoo Council.

According to Haarisa, on thesidelines of the banquet, a coupon was presented to each fishing vessel in the island, which can be used to collect goods worth MVR, 5000. It is a gift from the council to recognize the national service of the fishermen, which is small compared to the work of the fishermen but we want to honour the fishermen, she added.

There are four tuna fishing vessels in Hanimaadhoo. Fishermen’s Day is officially celebrated in the Maldives on December 10 every year.
