Activities scheduled to be held at Haa Dhaalu Atoll to mark this year’s World AIDS Day.
The theme for this year’s AIDS Day is “Let Communities Lead”.
The theme aims to bring everyone together and take the lead in providing treatment and service to infected patients and in providing necessary support and prevention activities.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) also stated that under this year’s World AIDS Day theme special activities have been planned in the atolls. These activities will be held collaboratively with Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH), Kulhudhuffushi City Council, Society for Health Education (SHE), Mission for Migrants Workers in Maldives (MMWM), Vibe Youth and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
Under the activities, a voluntary counselling and testing training for health workers (doctors, nurses, and laboratory technologists) was conducted from November 26-30, 2023. The training was conducted in Hanimaadhoo. In this training, participants were taught rules/process/procedures for testing, providing information to patients and providing required information for health workers and information on counselling.
Moreover, the activities also include a peer education training and peer outreach program aimed at drug addicts in Kulhudhuffushi City in collaboration with the SHE, and has launched an MR vaccination campaign for migrant workers.
Furthermore, as part of these activities, MMWM and SHE will jointly conduct a health camp for migrant workers in Kulhudhuffushi. And will be conducting a HIV and Hepatitis screening program. It has also been decided to organize activities for families and youth.
In addition, a 1-day training on HIV, Hepatitis B and other sexually transmitted diseases and its treatments will be held for the health workers in the atolls in Kulhudhuffushi City with the help of IGMH and also a specialist consultation will be provided for the patients.
