Shaviyani Atoll Council has provided financial assistance to two Civil Society Organizations (CSO) that have submitted proposals for financial assistance for social development programs planned by registered CSOs in the atolls.

This is the second round of assistance provided by the Sh. Atoll Council. President of Sh. Atoll Council Mohamed Shiyam stated that similar to last round opportunity was open to three CSOs submit proposals, however, only two CSOs submitted proposals.

Shiyam stated that the program will be implemented annually as part of the five-year development plan of Sh. Atoll Council. He also noted that they hope that the program would give more strength to organizations to become active.

Under this program, the proposal was submitted by the Society for Maaungoodhoo Youth Linkage and Arula Sports Academy in Foakaidhoo. The atoll council has signed an agreement to provide financial assistance to the two organizations and each has been given MVR 75,000.

The objectives of providing financial assistance to the organizations operating in the atoll are to encourage and support the efforts of civil society organizations in Sh. Atoll to empower the community, promote social development and revive the social spirit.

Under this program, last year assistance was provided to Maaungoodhoo Association for Island Development (MAID), Milandhoo Sports Club and Unity Sports Academy in Funadhoo. As financial assistance each of these organizations MVR 75,000 was provided. And these organizations have successfully carried out programs as per their proposal.
