A special program on how to grow plants in greenhouses is ongoing at Sh. Narudhoo.
The program is a Maldives Agribusiness Program (MAP) project by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture.
With a total of 16 participants, the program started in the island on October 31.
Speaking about the program, President of Narudhoo Council, Mohamed Mustharshid stated that the program is being conducted in 26 islands in the three northernmost atolls of the Maldives and the program is conducted in agricultural islands and as Narudhoo is an agricultural island program is being conducted.
The program includes theory classes and practical classes on how to prepare the greenhouse and seedling/planting process. Mustharshid added that even though planting and growing trees in the greenhouse is little new to the island, but now there is a lot of interest from the participants to plant trees in the greenhouse.
In Shaviyani Atoll, Narudhoo is an island that is under extensive cultivation. Many people, including the youth of the island, are earning good income from agriculture.
