More than MVR 235,000 has been raised from activities carried out in HDh. Kurinbi, to raise funds to assist the Palestinian people who have been affected by the atrocities committed by Israeli forces in Palestine.

The activities held in the island to raise funds to help the affected Palestinian Muslims received a total of MVR 235,235. The figure is MVR 307.89 per head of the Kurinbi population.

The money raised from the fundraising activities have already been credited to the account of the International Aid Campaign (IAC). The IAC has been providing assistance to the displaced people in Palestine.

Moreover, even last year’s fundraising activities in Kurinbi to help those affected by Israel’s atrocities in Palestine also received MVR 164,509.

Speaking about the activities undertaken to raise funds to support the Palestinians, Kurinbi Council member Mohamed Afzal stated that the council took the initiative and held a meeting with the island school, Women’s Development Committee (WDC), Fenaka, Health Centre and Kurinbi Youth Movement a committee was formed with two members from each organization.

In this regard, the committee first decided to set up a fund box at the Island’s Mosque on October 20. And later evening on the same day they visited all residential homes in the island with the fund box.

As a second event, a food exhibition was organized on the island. Led by the island’s womens, the event was conducted with the participation of all residents.

After that, the amount of one day’s salary from the salary of all the employees of all the institutions in the island was donated to the fund. Afzal stated even though they had decided to donate the salary of one day, but many had deposited more.

To raise funds for the fund, the committee took the initiative to set up a call centre and contact people working in the Male’ and resorts to raise funds. Afzal stated that for this initiative a lot of support was received.

The Council thanked the island’s School, Health Center, WDC, Fenaka and Kurinbi Youth Movement for their support and assistance in carrying out the activities. The council also thanked the members of the committee that led the activities and all citizens of the island who contributed to the fund.
