A total 11 teams have participated in the ‘Thila Uthuru Futsal Tournament 2023’, organized by Haa Atoll Council in collaboration with Maarandhoo Council.
The teams participated in tournament are: Thakandhoo, Utheemu, Filladhoo, Baarah, Maarandhoo, Thuraakunu, Kelaa, Vashafaru, Ihavandhoo, Muraidhoo, and Dhidhdhoo.
The tournament is scheduled to begin on November 3, 2023, and teams will be divided into three groups. Group 1 and 2 will have four teams and Group 3 will have 3 teams.
Top team from each group will reach the semifinal of the tournament. And the top performing team among the second place from all the groups will get the remaining slot of the semifinal. Also an additional match will be played between the second and third team of group 3 since they have only three teams in the group.
The objectives of organizing the tournament are to promote friendship and harmony among the islands of the atoll, promote social bonds and promote the spirit of sportsmanship.
The winning team will receive a cash prize of MVR 30,000 while the runners-up will get a cash prize of MVR 15,000 and fair play team will receive MVR 10,000. And several other positions will be selected and awarded.
The first edition of ‘Thila Uthuru Futsal Tournament’ was held at Ha. Utheemu last year and Ha. Filladhoo were the champions of the tournament. This year the second year the tournament is being held.
