Minister of State for Arts Culture and Heritage Mohamed Thorig has donated 100 coconut tree saplings to the Ha. Utheemu.

According to the Utheemu Council, these coconut trees will be planted as per the island’s land use plan.

The council also stated that these treesĀ  will not be distributed to the general public but the aim is to plant the trees as per the land use plan so that the council and the people can be benefited in the future.

Moreover, Utheemu Council stated that the island already has planted coconut trees in selected areas. It was inaugurated on the National Day in 1444, and from those coconut trees Council and people are already benefiting. Hence the 100 coconut tree saplings donated by State Minister Thoriq are expected to benefit in the next three years.

In addition, as part of a ā€˜National Coconut Rehabilitation Program’ the ā€œNew Generation of Coconut Treesā€ initiative launched by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, coconut trees were planted in Utheemu on May 5.
