Ministry of Tourism has re-opened bidding for developing Sh. Nalandhoo for tourism (resort).
According to the announcement by the Tourism Ministry, interested parties to develop the island for tourism are requested attend information session to be held virtually at 11:00hrs on October 24, 2023, and to submit bids on November 06, 2023, at 10:00hrs.
Moreover, Ministry requested those interested in participating the information session to send their Name, Email, and Contact Number to [email protected] before 12:00hrs of October 23, 2023.
Furthermore, Sh. Nalandhoo was leased for agriculture purposes 22 years ago. However, the island was being used for cultivation of sea cucumbers. Therefore, islands from the Shaviyani Atoll are not making a reasonable profit from leasing the island. Also, compare to other atolls, Shaviyani Atoll does not have much of tourism and to expand tourism in the atoll is a target according government. In addition, Ha. Medhafushi was also open to investment at the 2021 Dubai Expo.
Back in August also Ministry opened bidding to develop a resort in Nalandhoo.
