More than MVR 100,000 has been raised from activities carried out in Ha. Dhidhdhoo to raise funds to assist the Palestinian people who have been affected by the atrocities committed by Israeli forces in Palestine.
A total of MVR 1,32,000.88 was raised from the activities conducted in the island from October 9 to 14. Speaking regarding the event, Nashwan Ibrahim, Coordinator of the event stated that although the event was organized collaboratively by Middle Sports Club, Dhi Foundation, Girl Guides of Haa Alifu Atoll Education Center and Baarala Sports, it is an event of the people of Dhidhdhoo.
Moreover, fund boxes were set up at all mosques in the island on October 9 to raise funds for the Palestinian Fund. On Friday and Saturday, fundraising events were held in two parts of the island. In these events several different kind of foods were sold to make money.
Nashwan further stated that although Friday and Saturdays were extremely rainy, there was a lot of support from the people during the activities in both parts of the island. And the funds raised from these activities has been handed over to the International Aid Campaign. The International Aid Campaign has been providing assistance to the displaced people in Palestine.
With the International Aid Campaign and the initiative of local media, a telethon is also underway to raise funds to help the Palestinians. The telethon will continue till today.
In addition, on Friday, several islands in the Maldives, including Male’ city, witnessed a series of demonstrations calling for Palestinian independence.
