A Labour Relations Authority’s (LRA) unit has been set up in the Haa Alifu Atoll and services have been started.

The unit has been set up at the Haa Alifu Atoll Council Office in Dhidhdhoo, to make it easier for the residents of the islands in the area to file employment-related complaints.

The unit was inaugurated by President of Ha.  Atoll Council Moosa Shafeeq. This is the fourth such unit set up by the Labour Relations Authority in the atolls. The purpose of the authority is to look into complaints related to the rights of employees and employers and to deal with employment-related cases across the atolls.

According to the Labour Relations Authority, a complaint filed to these units will be looked into by the unit of the LRA in the area and with this, it will also expedite the investigation and resolution of such cases. The most convenient thing about these units is that they will not depend on their office in Male’ City.

The functions of such units in the atolls include inspecting establishments to check the implementation of employment laws and providing legal advice and information related to employment.

The LRA noted that the number of complaints of various employment cases is increasing day by day. Therefore, setting up such branches in the atolls in line with the government’s policy will make it easier to speed up the service and to file cases.

In addition to Haa Alifu Atoll, LRA units are established at Shaviyani Atoll, Baa Atoll, and Raa Atoll.
