Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) has commenced chemotherapy services.

According to KRH, to ensure a safe environment for chemo therapy services, the hospital’s chemo therapy unit has been set-up with the assistance technical experts of Hulhumale’ Hospital and the nurses required provide the service has also been trained.

Moreover, KRH stated that a separate area has been renovated and a bio-safety cabinet has been installed to provide the service. SoPs and guidelines to be followed in service delivery have also been prepared.

Since some of the medicines used in providing this service contain cytotoxic substances, it will be transported to Thilafushi with the help of Hulhumale’ Hospital to discard the medical waste generated after treatment.The hospital further stated that it will be kept safely till it is taken for disposal.

Furthermore, KRH stated that the people of the area had earlier availed the chemotherapy service for cancer patients have to travel Male’ city and since it was a huge burden for the patients and their families, they wanted to ease the burden that the people were carrying.

The hospital is committed to providing additional training to the nurses and doctors involved in improving the chemo therapy service and making it easier for those patients needing the service.They also thanked the public for their feedback and support in improving the hospital services.
