Sh. Foakaidhoo Council has launched a program to distribute Tote Bags to every households in the island.

As part of the program, Foakaidhoo Council will distribute five Tote Bags to each of the 265 residential houses in the island.

Speaking about the program, Foakaidhoo Council President Ahmed Asif stated that with the help of the council staff, the distribution of bags to the houses has already started and in the first round two bags will be distributed to each household. The rest will be available by the end of this month and once it is received, the distribution will continue.

Moreover, Asif stated that program is funded by the council and he believes that with distribution of Tote Bags to the households in the island, the use of plastic bags will be reduced. Also, Asif appealed to everyone in the island to use eco-friendly bags over plastic bags.

The Tote Bags distributed to households in the island has been designed in relation to the theme of mural wall painting in Foakaidhoo by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology in collaboration The Island Artist.
