Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) has opened its new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with modern facilities.
Minister at the President’s Office Ali Shiyam inaugurated the ICU service at a special ceremony held. On the occasion, the Hospital’s ICU protocol was also unveiled.
According to KRH Information Officer Mohamed Moosa, the newly developed ICU with 6 beds is located on the top floor of the recently established three-storey ‘Kaani Wing’ building at the hospital. Previously, Hospital had only a four-bed ICU with 3 ventilators, therefore, service was provided with difficulties, Mohamed Moosa added.
However, he stated that with the newly opened ICU will make it much easier to provide and receive services. Moreover, he added that those undergoing dialysis and those who need isolation or separate treatment have now been made easier to do so and infection control has been intensified. Also, now there are two separate rooms for dirty utilities and clean utilities.
Furthermore, a separate briefing room to inform the by-standard (helpers) of those who have been bed-ridden in the ICU also have been established under the project. As part of the new ICU development project, an area has also been created for doctors and nurses, and more than MVR 16 million has been spent on the project.
The opening ceremony of the ICU was attended by the Hospital’s Governing Board Member and Kulhudhuffushi City Mayor Mohamed Athif, Hospital Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Dawood (David), Governing Board Chairman Aminath Qasim, Governing Board Member and IGMH Medical Director Dr. Aminath Nazeer, Deputy Director General of the Hospital Khadija Ali, Under Secretary at the President’s Office Mohamed Hunaif and doctors, nurses and senior officials working at the hospital were present on the occasion.
