For the first time in the country, State Trading Organization (STO) has started operating a special Barge for Jet Fuel.

The Barge ‘Laganaa’ dedicated for supplying Jet Fuel was commissioned exclusively for the supply of Jet A-1 fuel for Maafaru International Airport as part of an agreement between STO and Island Aviation. The Laganaa’ barge has a capacity of 200 cubic meters and has state-of-the-art measurement equipment.

According to STO, the barge has been prepared to address the problems of safe transportation of Aviation fuel to the atolls. It also noted that it meets aviation fuel quality requirements. This barge has been commissioned with industry standard filters for Aviation as per the relevant quality assurance codes and this is also the first time in the country, the company highlighted in a statement.

Moreover, STO stated that with this new barge, the ship’s crew will be provided with field training in aviation fuel handling as well as relevant operations manuals and documents. Furthermore, with this barge, STO has put in place a quality assurance system that can be traced from Jet A-1 Oil refinery to flight on par with industry best practices. Oil samples will be collected at each transfer point and tested at the laboratory set up by the STO in the Male’.

Laganaa was prepared with consultancy for HansaConsult Projects.
