Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has stated the prices at which Bin Liners or garbage collection bags are sold by the company.
Under the Waste Management Act, business activities have started charging MVR 2 as plastic bag fee for every plastic bag sold or supplied to the customer in for each sale from March 18, 2023 onwards. However, the law makes it mandatory for waste management service providers not to charge fees from Bin Liners that are specifically sold or issued for dumping waste.
According to WAMCO they will start selling Bin Liners from Thursday onwards. And it will be available at its customer front offices at its Male’, Hulhumale’ and Villingili waste transfer stations. The price at which WAMCO sells the Bin Liners:
- Large – MVR 35 per 100 bags pack (17*11 inch)
- Double XL – MVR 165 per 100 bags pack (27*18 inch)
- Triple XL – MVR 165 per 50 bags pack (48*16 inch)
Moreover, WAMCO will provide 3 sizes of Bin Liners with two colours (Black and Green) for its customers. And company recommend to use Green Colour Bin Liners for food or self-disposed wastes and to use black Bin Liners for other waste or garbage. It has also been suggested that the bags introduced by WAMCO should be used only for waste collection.
