The Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and the Ministry of Education have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to sponsor special scholarship programs for the training of principals in order to create competent principals to improve the functioning of schools.

The MoU was signed by Minister Aishath Ali on behalf of the Ministry and Hassan Shah, Managing Director of MWSC, signed on behalf of MWSC at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education.

As part of the MoU, 10 scholarships of Master’s Degree level courses and 110 short-term courses will be sponsored for training to produce qualified principals for schools across the country. The two-year-long programs will be implemented as part of the MWSC’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

The MWSC stated that due to the shortage of specially trained personnel to run schools in the Maldives, it is difficult for schools to function properly. Therefore, to have quality principals to provide quality education to students and improve teaching in schools company signed the MoU. The company also stated that good principals working in schools is one of the key reasons for student’s results.

Moreover, company stated that it is a great pleasure and privilege to provide such an opportunity to learn and build Maldivians in a field that is in dire need of the society, under MWSC’s CSR. Further, company noted that the program will immensely benefit the society.

In addition, MWSC has always strived to contribute to the betterment, assistance and welfare of the community, the company stated in a statement.
