Shaviyani Atoll Council and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) from the islands of the atoll have signed agreements regarding the programs planned to be carried out collaboratively.

The agreements were signed at a special meeting held at the Atoll Council with the President of the WDC of the islands from the atoll. The meeting was attended by WDCs from all inhabited islands of the atoll.

According to President of Sh. Atoll Council Mohamed Siyam, main objective of these collaborated programs are to provide support and assistance to the WDCs of the islands in the atoll to fulfill their legally mandated responsibilities. Some of the programs to be conducted as part of the agreements include, promoting education of adults, assistance to persons with disabilities and medical camps.

Siyam further noted that atoll council’s role in these programs are only facilitation of these programs in the islands. And he believes that such collaborative programs by both sides would greatly facilitate the achievement of objectives.
