President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the land reclamation project for HDh. Makunudhoo and Sh. Bilehfahi Airport Development project will begin this year.
President made the remarks in his presidential address at the opening ceremony of the Parliament this year. President stated that land reclamation required for Airport Development projects in HDh. Makunudhoo, Sh. Bilehfahi, B. Thulhaadhoo, and Th. Vilufushi would begin by the middle of this year.
Moreover, President noted that “we are in the process of setting up all the necessary domestic airports in the country. Hoarafushi Airport in now in operations, Faresmaathoda Airport will be fully completed by February, expansion work begins at Maafaru International Airport, F. Magoodhoo and M. Muli Airports will hopefully be completed by the end of this year”. He also said that the land reclamation for R. Alifushi Airport has been started and the entire country will be connected by air with the Airport that can be developed in south R. Atoll and other necessary Domestic Airports.
President Solih stated that two major projects to build the airport outside the Male’ region are underway. Noting that Hanimaadhoo International Airport development project is underway and the aim is to complete the new runway by the last quarter of this year. Also, Addu International Airport Development project will be handed over to begin the work in February.
In addition, the President stated that these are two modern International Airports developed to cater to a total of 2.8 million passengers annually.
