Work on the Ha. Thakandhoo Community Volleyball Court has been successfully completed.
According to the President of ‘Thakandhoo Ekuveringe Rooh’ (TER) Abdul Rauf, the Volley Court was developed under the Youth Ministry’s grant. He stated that idea of laying turf on the volley court came after the grand was settled, however, they wanted to make it as good as possible when it came to creating a playground for the citizens. Also, previously volleyball was played at a sand court and they wanted to change that.
Moreover, Rauf noted that the volleyball court, set up at a cost of around 5 lakh, is the first outdoor turf volleyball court built in the atoll and arrangements have been made to play during the night time as well. Rauf further noted that turf laying works are not planned while grant was provided, therefore they met the Youth Minister through council and requested for it. Also, Rauf stated that project was funded from TER budget as well.
In addition, since the island also has several youngsters playing volleyball at a good level, it’s the hope TER that this court will enhance their skills and bring out players at the atoll and national level.
