Opportunity has been opened to participate in a Imagu Masrace 2022’ a Fishing Race to be held in Ha. Ihavandhoo by Ihavandhoo Masveringe Gulhun (Imagu) to mark this year’s Fishermen’s Day.
Fishing race will be aimed at the fishermen of Ihavandhoo, the youth and women who love fishing. Residents of Ihavandhoo, all the institutes in the island, and fishing vessels of the island will have the opportunity to participate in the fishing race. Fishermen’s Day is celebrated every year in the country on December 10. The fishing race is scheduled to be held on December 16, 2022.
The objectives of the fishing race are to inculcate the spirit of ‘sports fishing’ among those interested in fishing in Ihavandhoo and encourage them to promote it as a sport. It is also part of the purpose of the festival to revive the spirit of friendship and harmony in the island.
Imagu requests the teams who wish to participate in the fishing race to complete and submit the team registration form before December 13, 2022.

Moreover, according to the Imagu, a team can have a maximum of 20 members and a team should have a minimum of 5 members. Moreover, if each team prefers they can include 3 people from other islands. The fishing race is scheduled to begin at 1615 hrs and they have to return to Ihavandhoo harbour before 2130 hrs on that day.
The winning team of the fishing race will receive MVR 5,000, the runner-up team will receive MVR2,000. In addition, the person who catches the heaviest fish and highest number of fish will be selected and awarded.
