Shaviyani Atoll Council has successfully concluded a workshop held to familiarize Council and Women’s Development Committees (WDC) with the Decentralization Act and the regulations established under the Act.

The three-day workshop on “Mila Uthuru Councils and Women’s Development Committees Workshop” held at the Sh. Fonadhoo was attended by the President of the WDC of each island, the President of the Council, the Secretary General of the Councils, the President of the Noonu Atoll Council and two other members of the Council.

According to the Sh. Atoll Council aim of the workshop is to increase the technical capacity of WDC and island councils, and to comply with the Decentralization Act and related regulations.

Noting that this was a successful meeting, President of Shaviyani Atoll Council Mohamed Shiyam stated that the participants of the workshop had good reviews regarding the workshop. He also noted that information received during the workshop to the participants can be used in future which was one of the most important objectives of the workshop.

Moreover, all the arrangements and expenses for the meeting were made by the Atoll Council. And transport of the participants were arranged via the RTL ferry approved by the council last month.

The workshop was briefed by CEO of Local Government Authority (LGA) Afshan Latheef and Director General of LGA Shamoon Adam.
