HDh. Nolhivaranfaru water system has been inaugurated.
At a ceremony held in Nolhivaranfaru on September 14, 2022, the island’s water system was inaugurated by Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan and Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Ahmed Saeed.
The ceremony was also attended by Environment Minister Aminath Shauna and Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed Abdulla. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Shauna noted the challenges faced by the islands due the water shortage as a result of climate change, and noted that the project was a solution for the issue.
Work on the water system in Nolhivaranfaru commenced on November 1, 2018. The project was completed on February 7, 2022. Under the project two 45-ton plants were established which have the capacity to produce 90 cubic meters of water per day. Moreover, to store the water a 300 tonne tank was established. And a water network of 16.7 kilometers also has been established under the project.
A total of MVR 36,321,012.36 was spent on establishing a water system in Nolhivaranfaru.
The project was carried out with the assistance of the Green Climate Fund and the Government of Maldives and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project was contracted to Canadian Crystalline Water India Limited by the Environment Ministry.
