Regional Airports Company (RACL) has established an Aviation academy in Ha. Hoarafushi including the first automatic fire simulator in the Maldives.
The basal of the fire simulator was initiated by former Director of Fire and Safety of RACL late Ahmed Fayaz. The development of the fire simulator was initiated in August 2021 under the direct supervision of Fayaz.
In recognition of Fayaz’s work at the commencement of the project, the fire simulator was named after Ahmed Fayaz Fire Simulator following the decision of the board of directors and managing director of the company.
The RACL Aviation Academy is capable of conducting all aviation-related programmes required by the Aviation Regulatory Authority. And the work to establish academy commenced under the guidance of the company’s Managing Director Mohamed Rizvi.
Moreover, RACL Training Academy is an academy that conducts civil aviation approved certificate level courses for in-house and Maldivian institutions in accordance with the standards set by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority. According to the RACL, 20 capable and experienced trainers who have received civil aviation approval will work at the academy.
The main purpose of the academy is to create capable and efficient staff in the industry. The academy will conduct various levels of fire training as well as aerodrome operations. The fire simulators established at the academy will help fire fighters or students seeking training to assess fire disciplines such as the scale of the fire, thermal stress, visibility, intensity, and temperature susceptibility to the burning space.
RACL stated that several changes have been brought to the structure to improve the quality of the academy during the construction. And that they hope in the future, the fire pit is to rank as one of the best fire simulators in the Asia region.
In addition, academy has commenced training for basic fireman course on July 26, 2022 with a total of 23 students. Furthermore, RACL has stated that aircraft rescue and firefighting and emergency medical training will be commenced for employees and individuals who wish to work in the sector in the near future.
