Adam Saleem Cup Football Tournament 2021 organized by Hanimaadhoo Youth Association has resumed after suspending the tournament due to the Covid19 outbreak in the Island.
The first match of the tournament was played at the Hanimaadhoo Football Stadium on November 27, 2021.
The competition is held in the league format. And the team with the highest point will be given the first slot in the final of the tournament. And the second slot in the final will be given to the team that wins the semi-final between the second team and the third team.
Hanimaadhoo Youth Association began holding its first football competition back in January 2000. The competition was also linked to several activities held in the Maldives to mark the beginning of the 21st century. The first competition was held under the name “Saas Cup”.
The Saas Cup was renamed to the Adam Saleem Cup in 2002. Adam Saleem was a member of Hanimaadhoo Youth Association, was one of the best football players established in Hanimaadhoo. The Steering Committee of Hanimaadhoo Youth Association decided to rename the competition as the Adam Saleem Cup after Adam Saleem passed away in 2002.
