Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated that Raajje Transport Link (RTL) services as part of the Integrated National Public Ferry Network services is scheduled to officially commence in Zone 1 Shaviyani Atoll during next month.

CEO of MTCC Adam Azim and General Manager of MTCC Marine Transport Division Ismail Farig stated that RTL services will begin in Shaviyani Atoll before the end of July, and that the ferry services to all islands of Zone 1 will be completed. Azim further stated that the speedboats required to commence operations in Shaviyani Atoll have already been completed and work is underway to recruit staff for the speedboats.

RTL services were first launched in Haa Dhaalu Atoll and recently in Haa Alifu Atoll as part of the government’s project to connect the Maldives with a high-speed ferry system. The Integrated National Public Ferry Network project is carried out by dividing Maldives into six zones.

Moreover, RTL’s passenger ferry is connected in three different ways. They are commute links, non-commute links and highway links. The commute link is for short trips connecting nearby islands. The non-commute link is to travel from one island to another. The highway link connects the transport hub of one region and the transport hub of the other.

Furthermore, a special application has been launched to purchase tickets for the RTL’s services. Also, tickets can be purchased through RTL’s web portal.

The ferry’s do not charge for children under the age of three, and people with disabilities can also travel free of charge. And one child under the age of 3 can travel with each passenger. And the 50 seat speedboats built for the services are designed in a way which can be used easily by disabled people.
