The Labour Relations Authority (LRA) has signed an agreement with Shaviyani Atoll Council to establish a LRA desk in Shaviyani Atoll.
At a ceremony held at the Atoll Council, the agreement was signed by President of Shaviyani Atoll Council Mohamed Shiyam and Director of LRA Ahmed Mizhath Naeem signed the agreement on behalf of the authority.
The agreement was signed with Shaviyani Atoll Council to hold LRA employment officers in the atoll in order to closely monitor cases submitted to the LRA and establish a mechanism to take swift action as per LRA.
Speaking at the ceremony, President of Shaviyani Atoll Council Mohamed Shiyam assured of his and council staff’s full support for the work of the employees of the LRA, since LRA employees will be working at the atoll council under the agreement. And they will be providing service to all the Islands in the Atoll.
This is the second atoll to sign an agreement with the Atoll Council to establish an LRA desk. LRA had previously signed an agreement with Raa Atoll Council in March this year to accommodate employees.
Moreover, work is also underway to accommodate employees in more atolls this year to decentralize the work of LRA. Further stating that the aim is to start work with the authority’s employees in eight atolls by the end of the year.
The LRA is an institution established under the Employment Act to establish basic employment policies in the Maldives and to protect the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees.
