Funadhoo Council has stated that efforts are underway to introduce “neighborhood police” in the island.
According to the Funadhoo Council President Ahmed Ibrahim Fulhu, a meeting was held by the Funadhoo Police to provide information to the residents regarding introducing Neighborhood Police.
The meeting was attended by representatives from various institutions and NGOs of the island. These include Fenaka, Court, Funadhoo Airport, Gender, Funadhoo School, NGOs, Funadhoo Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members.
Funadhoo Council has stated that the meeting was held to discuss crime reduction in collaboration with the to be introduced neighborhood police. Moreover, the council stated that the police will work more closely with the people with the change to the system. With this change, the police will visit the houses of the island and check if there is an issue to be investigated.
The Island Council further stated that the cooperation of all institutions in the island will be required to reduce crime and requested all institutes to give their full support to the project. Also, “ Council also requested the assistance of the people of the island in building a crime free community.
In addition, council noted that the aim is to provide this service to the people in the near future.
