A Photo of the Maldives has been selected as the Underwater Photograph of the Year 2022, the most prestigious global underwater photo competition held annually in the UK.
The photo was taken by Spanish photographer Rafael Fernandez Caberello. He received the photograph of the year award for a photo showing the Whale Sharks feeding on nocturnal plankton gathered around the lights of a boat..
Moreover, the photographer used “Dancing with the Giants of the Night” as caption to share the photo in the competition. The photo shows 5 Whale Sharks in Maldivian sea at night. However, location was not shared where the photo was taken in the Maldives.
Speaking about the photo, Caberello said that this is a photo taken while diving in the Maldives with shark researcher Gador Muntaner. The judges noted that this was an exemplary example shown by photographers despite the difficulties faced in traveling around the world.
