Ooredoo Maldives stated that they have signed a deal to invest in the PEACE Cable.
PEACE Cable is a direct international Submarine Cable System that will build resiliency, diversity and redundancy on international data capacity to provide uninterrupted services to our customers. The cable will further strengthen the digital infrastructure of the Maldives. It will connect the shores of Kulhudhuffushi City to Singapore and Europe.
According to Ooredoo Maldives, they are investing in this revolutionary submarine cable to improve latency to Singapore and Europe and to add additional capacity. It will also provide diversity to international traffic and empower the 5G capabilities, in line with our vision to establish a truly Digital Maldives.
Moreover, Ooredoo Maldives carefully selected Kulhudhuffushi as the landing station for this subsea cable in order to diversify ISP traffic and promote locations outside of the capital in order to propel a digitally powered nation with limitless possibilities and opportunities.
The new international submarine cable will span 3000 kilometers to the east and 6000 kilometers to the west, connecting the Maldives to Singapore in the east and Marseille in France in the west via a trunk route that will also connect more than 15 additional nations, including East Africa.
With the successful landing of the PEACE Cable, the north of the Maldives will become a gateway to the east and west, allowing hyperscale services and hosting Data Center facilities at Kulhudhuffushi city. As the cable becomes an information highway to the rest of the globe, future digital enterprises and software development facilities are expected to sprout, providing new jobs, developing skill sets, and unlimited opportunities to join the global digital race.
The PEACE Cable is set to be deployed and landed in Kulhudhuffushi city in early 2023. The project will also support and improve network readiness in order to provide groundbreaking 5G services that will connect Maldivians to new technologies, innovation, and socioeconomic development across the country.
