Maldives receives “World’s Leading Destination” for the first by the World Travel Awards.
The award was awarded to Maldives by a virtual ceremony held last night. The award was won by the Maldives by competing against big countries such as Dubai, Malaysia, Mauritius and neighboring Sri Lanka.
After the receiving this award to Maldives, a tweet by the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that he was very happy to see this award being awarded to Maldives. Moreover, even through the pandemic of COVID-19, Maldives became a safe country after tireless works by the tourism ministry.
After tweeting in regard with the award, tourism minister Dr. Mausoom thanked everyone who possibly helped to build back the industry. He specifically named the president for opening up the borders and HPA along with the health ministry to put up fine guide lines to strictly control the pandemic in Maldives as well.
The award which was started to give in 1993 is the biggest awarding ceremony in tourism industry. Within the last few years, Maldives has won a lot of awards in this awarding ceremony.
