The latest airport to be included to the restructured air transportation system of the Maldives, Hoarafushi Airport will undergo test flights next monday.
Under the contract of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Ha.Hoarafushi’s Airport is to be completed for this weeks tuesday.
Officially the airport is to be done by the 17th of this month and the test flights are to be commenced on the 16th of the month. Transport Ministry’s State minister Ahmed Zuhair has given the information to the state media PSM.
Test flights being the last preparations for the airport, if the test flight becomes successful, scheduled flights will be commenced as soon as possible as well.
Hoarafushi is an island with more than 3000 people and in order to develop the airport, from the Hoarafushi reef, more than 345,500 hectors of land has been dredged. The developed Airport will 1.2 km long on the runway.
Last terms government decided to develop an airport on Maafinolhu, but the current government came in to power and decided to change the plan to Hoarafushi. The agreement was signed on the 31st of March 2020.
