HA. Atoll Education Centre (HA. A.E.C), in association with Middle Sports Club and Parley Maldives have successfully executed a Single-Use Plastic Collection Programme.
With the first round of the programme in completion, the participants have collected over 53,000 plastic bottles.
Approximately 300 million tons of plastic is produced each year worldwide making single-use plastic a glaring example of throwaway culture.
Plastic refuse is a massive complication imposed on the already fragile environment of Maldives. HA. A.E.C gives prominence to tackling such issues and this programme is a part of their ongoing effort to reduce the use of plastic in the island of Dhidhoo.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, in his maiden speech to the United Nation’s General Assembly, had said that the most polluting single-use plastic items, such as small water bottles and many single-use plastic bags, would be phased out by 2023.
Middle Sports Club, who also played a huge role in this programme has donated dust-bins to HA. Dhidhoo a few weeks prior to this.
