Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) commences the construction of pillars needed to put up the wards required for Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital’s expansion.

MTCC stated that they will be able to lay the initial sheet for the new building in the first week of August. MTCC began work to expand KRH on June 1, 2020.

The project was contracted over to MTCC by the state for MVR 30 million, tied with a deadline of six months.

The agreement set forth constructing a two-storey hospital ward that could serve 30 beds. Additionally, MTCC is to refurbish the OPD area, connecting the administrative buildings to Ufan Hiyaa through a walkway and relocating the Laboratory services to Ufan Hiyaa. Their work also involved construction of the new Laboratory which is currently underway.

MTCC had published a rendered image of the final look of the hospital post construction work.

The agreement to construct a new ward at KRH was signed by MTCC on November 14, 2019.

Once the construction work is completed, KRH will be able to cater to a large number of patients and eliminate capacity related issues. KRH is currently being utilised by patients from three atolls of the North.
