Following yesterday’s ceremony to hand over gym equipment, Minister of Youth, Ahmed Mahloof, announced a list of islands to be facilitated with the outdoor gyms, today. The list comprised of a total of 61 islands, out of which 15 were from north of the country.
According to the list, from HA atoll, Baarah, Thakandhoo and Muraidhoo will have a gym. Kulhudhuffushi City, Kumundoo, Neykurendhoo and Vaikaradhoo from H.Dh atoll, while from Shaviyani atoll Foakaidhoo and Kanditheemu will be equipped with the facility. Apart from these islands, Noonu Atoll also appeared on the list with Henbadhoo, Maamendhoo, Velidhoo, Kudafari, Maafaru and Manadhoo to be presented with the outdoor gym facility.
The list publicized by the ministry showed that most of the islands to be facilitated were from R. Atoll, notably Maduvvaru, Meedhoo, Ungoofaaru, Rasgetheemu, Hulhudhuffaaru, Inguraidhoo, Innamaadhoo and Fainu.

The ceremony that took place yesterday was held at the National Football Stadium, with India’s Ambassador to Maldives, Sanjay Sudheer, handing over the equipment necessary to facilitate the outdoor gyms. Chief Guest for the ceremony was Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed.
With the objective to pave way for a healthier lifestyle for locals, the project to facilitate 61 outdoor gyms was funded by Indian Government, granting an aid of MVR 8 million for the initiative.
