Ungaafooru Regional Hospital in Raa atoll has now commenced conducting COVID-19 tests.
The testing is being done through a GeneXpert machine with cartridges donated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to the Maldives to implement COVID-19 testing services in six additional atolls across the country.
The hospital reports that the machine has undergone a successful trial and the quality also has been checked and assured as well. Starting from today, COVID-19 testing would be available from the hospital with the required special permission issued by Health Protection Agency (HPA), the hospital further added.
Ungaafooru Regional Hospital now has a capacity to conduct 80 tests per day.
Currently testing for the novel corona virus is available from IGMH, ADK Hospital, Police DNA lab, Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, Addu Equatorial Hospital and Maafaru International Airport.
