An amendment has been passed in the parliament committee to slash duties charged on goods that are imported through regional ports in Addu and Kulhudhuffushi City.

During the session of the committee consisted of all members parliament, conducted today, the new amendments to the Import-Export Act brought forth by MP for Gan constituency Mohamed Wisaam were discussed and reviewed. MP of Hithadhoo Central constituency Ahmed Rasheed, further proposed to increase the duty reductions on imports brought in through regional ports to 50 percent.

The amendments to the constitution were passed after a vote was taken with 54 MPs present.

A similar reduction in import duties for goods brought in through regional airports were also proposed at the committee by MP for Mandhoo constituency Ahmed Harun. But the proposed amendments are yet to be called in for a vote .
